Guide to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
Guide to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path 72 pages. £4.20
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path has been divided into 30 sections, starting in the north, and clearly illustrated by pen and ink maps. Many of these sections are further sub-divided by time and distance. The detail thereby gained in terms of short walks, both over the Pembrokeshire Coast Path or leading off it inland, makes this guide extremely useful for people wishing to explore short sections. It also enables great flexibility for those who wish to explore the whole of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
This Guide to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path was originally written in 1973 and has never been out of print since then. There have, of course, been countless updates. Sadly most of the changes have been closures of shops, cafes and public conveniences.
Tony was Head Warden of the National Park in the early 1970s so was very much involved in the creation of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. His detailed knowledge of the whole area is coupled with his personal interest in the history and pre-history of the area. Since he was publishing himself he didn’t have to follow anyone else’s political agenda. This all makes for an informal, informative and in-depth guide.
Elizabeth, who drew the maps and illustrations, was a talented artist. She is very much an individual and in many ways self-taught and this shows in the characterful illustrations. The maps are clear and well labelled.
Not for nothing has this guide been called Pembrokeshire’s answer to Wainwright.
