St Davids

St Davids. 32 pages £2.40

St Davids is a city the size of a village, it has a cathedral hiding itself in a hollow and a ruined Bishop’s palace that many on first glance mistake for the cathedral, so all in all St Davids is a bit of an enigma.

“Most people coming for the first time are delighted to find St Davids so small and unpretentious a city…In fact it is an agricultural village with the astonishing good luck to have St David (Dewi Sant) and a wonderful coast line.”

This book on St Davids covers the history of our Patron saint Dewi Sant, the cathedral (including a plan) and the Bishop’s palace. It also has detailed maps and descriptions of various walks around the magnificent coastline from and near the city. There is a detailed map and description of Ramsey Island which is just off the coast. The wonderful pre-history of the area is discussed with information on where to see ancient monuments. We are also treated to a couple of folk tales relating to the area and introduced to the Tylwyth Teg, the Fair Folk.

Chris Taylor, from the wonderful bookshop just above the cathedral, finishes the book with various thing to do around the city.
