The Geology of Pembrokeshire. 48 pages. £3.00

The geology of Pembrokeshire, which is very diverse and complicated, is clearly explained in this convenient pocket sized book. The book has been written for people who have had no formal training in geology. The terminology is clearly explained. The geology of Pembrokeshire has played such an important part in shaping the history of the county.

Dr. John says “I hope that it will be of interest to some of those who tramp the footpaths and lanes of our beautiful county: local people on weekend walks and drives, teachers and schoolchildren, holiday makers, and students involved in field excursions and project work.”

Perhaps the most striking feature of the geology of Pembrokeshire is the amazing variety of rock-types compressed into one small area. Most of the older rocks are in the north of the county and the younger rocks in the south. This distinction in the geology of Pembrokeshire is mirrored in the different histories of the two halves of the county.

Originally published in 1973 under the title “The Rocks of Pembrokeshire”, this book, like the Guide to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, has never since been out of print.
